While traditional Hold'em is played against other players, casinos have invented a version where you play directly against the house.

This specific variation, often called Ultimate Texas Hold'em or Casino Hold'em, has exploded in popularity on the gaming floor.

The Basic Flow of the Game

Once the initial wagers are placed, both you and the dealer receive two hole cards face down.

After looking at your two cards, you must make a crucial decision: either fold and lose your Ante, or 'Play'.

• The dealer must 'qualify' to fully pay out the Ante bet, usually needing a pair of 4s or better
• If the dealer does not qualify, your Play bet pushes (ties) and your Ante pays out even money
• If the dealer qualifies and beats your hand, you lose both the Ante and the Play bets completely

When to Fold and When to Play

Because the dealer plays blindly and must qualify, you should mathematically play the vast majority of hands you are dealt.

Folding should be reserved strictly for absolute garbage hands where you have virtually no chance of making a pair or better.
